Application: Elevated Pipe Rack Repair Welding
Equipment: Multiple SOFIMO ES-560 Welding Integrated Portable Power Stations
Repair welding on chemical plant pipe racks involves work locations spread along the structure, with some welds accessed from elevated platforms. Planning power distribution is a key part of coordinating these activities.
For this project, the team rented multiple SOFIMO ES-560 units and positioned them at ground level near the pipe rack. Welding leads connected the units to the elevated work areas, providing power for welding at multiple locations.
Pipes, structural steelwork and access platforms limit the space available at height. Keeping the power units on the ground avoided the need to move them onto the platforms and made equipment checks, adjustments and recharging easier to arrange.
Multiple ES-560 units were allocated across the work areas, giving crews access to welding power near their assigned locations. Equipment could be assigned according to crew responsibilities and progress, reducing the need to repeatedly share and relocate a single power source.
Ground-level power, elevated welding, and equipment distributed to match the work.

Using separate fuel-powered generators at multiple locations requires planning for generator placement, cable routing and fuel supplies. A centralised power source can involve longer cable runs to reach distant welding positions.
The ES-560 integrates battery storage and welding capability, supplying welding power independently when sufficient charge is available. Positioning units near the relevant work areas helps reduce long power-supply cable runs from a central source. Welding leads are still required between the ground-level units and the elevated weld locations.
During battery-powered operation, the units require no running combustion engine or on-site refuelling. For a project deploying multiple units, this reduces fuel-handling requirements and removes engine noise and exhaust from those power sources.
Renting the units allowed the project team to arrange equipment around the number of work locations and crew requirements during the repair period, limiting the upfront investment needed to purchase multiple units for a temporary requirement.
From ground-level placement to welding support at height, the SOFIMO ES-560 Welding Integrated Portable Power Stations provided a flexible power option for this pipe rack repair project.
